Choose a video format that fits the message

Compare a spoken explanation, a visible demonstration and a short text-led reel before choosing a format to remix.

In this guide

A format tells you how a story unfolds. It does not decide what your product can promise.

Before choosing a reference, write one sentence describing what the viewer should understand. Then watch for the part of the example that could help communicate that point: a revealing action, a comparison or a clear explanation.

Personify’s Videos area lets you browse format previews and start a remix for your brand. Treat the preview as a way to choose a structure. Your own script, presenter, product assets and visual plan still need review.

Try one idea in three forms

Imagine a fictional booking app called Slot Note. It lets a customer choose from appointment times a business has made available. It does not decide which appointment the customer needs.

A spoken explanation could start with: “Choosing a time? Here are the appointments this business has made available.” A presenter introduces the task; a recording shows the choices.

A demonstration could begin directly on the actual booking page. Show someone selecting a slot and reviewing it before confirming. The interface carries most of the explanation.

A text-led version could show the same action with two short lines: “Choose an available time” and “Review before confirming.” Those words appear on screen. They are not automatically a spoken script.

These are original illustrative briefs, not tested ads or customer results. The strongest choice depends on what the viewer needs to see and hear.

Check what makes the reference work

Watch the opening with sound, then again without it. Does the idea depend on a sentence, an action or a reveal? Notice how the ending completes the opening.

A reference built around a visual surprise may lose its point if every shot becomes a presenter speaking at a desk. A careful explanation may become confusing if compressed into a few disconnected labels.

Borrow the sequence of information, not another creator’s personal story, claims or identity. A preview does not grant permission to reuse its music or footage.

Review the adaptation before generating

Check who is speaking, the exact dialogue, any text that appears on screen and what each shot shows. Use a recording of your real app when the point depends on an actual control or interface state.

If the reference is longer than your planned video, choose a complete shorter story. Do not simply cut the ending to fit. Follow the duration and script guidance shown for the selected format; one word limit does not fit every video.

Review the selected assets and generation quote, then inspect the completed result. A format preview helps you choose a direction. It cannot guarantee that a new take will reproduce the same timing, performance or response from viewers.

Put the brief to work.
